triathlon

until I saw this pic I didn't know why the volunteers kept asking me if I was OK???
crossing the fnish line!!
Three years ago my daughter entered an all women's triathlon in Columbia, Md and I went down to cheer her on.  After watching her and 2000 other incredible women participate in this event I started to think that maybe in the future I could do something like that. These women were all ages and all abilities and most were not at all what one thinks of as the typical triathlete so it made me think that it might be possible.  After a total hip I regained some of my mobility and decided to go for it and entered the Tri for a Cure race here in Portland, Me.  It was limited to 800 women and registration was closed in 8 min. in Feb of this year.  Certainly shows that there is an interest in this sport!  I started training in the spring and my goal was to not drown in the swim, don't fall off the bike, and come across the finish line upright and before dark so that sounded doable.  On the morning of the race my nerves showed up and I had very little sleep, difficulty keeping food down, and talking a mile a minute - finally the race started and I managed the swim with little to no problem other than slow, the bike was a hoot because of all the spectators who loved seeing an older woman going for it, and the walk /run was a beautiful pathway especially knowing that I was on the home stretch.I had so much fun doing this and hope that others will see that although it sounds daunting it is not only doable but a load of fun!!
